Christopher Nolan's mythic action epic, The Odyssey, stands as a movie audiences have been anticipating since its announcement. It easily ranks as one of the most awaited motion pictures coming next year. In a festive surprise, a trailer has finally arrived, though it's hampered by YouTube's poor compression—perhaps explaining the director's choice to restrict the preview exclusive to cinemas.
A First Glimpse of the Stellar Ensemble
The debut footage reveals Matt Damon portraying Odysseus. Audiences are introduced to Tom Holland playing the son alongside Anne Hathaway depicting the loyal wife. In a poignant moment, Penelope asks her husband to vow he will return, to which he look up and question what happens if he cannot. Furthermore, the preview provides a quick, obscured look of the mythical one-eyed giant, whose flock are taken by the hero and his men on their treacherous voyage.
Based upon a foundational pillar of Western literature, The Odyssey chronicles the lengthy quest of the legendary King of Ithaca. Following his victory at Troy, which is depicted within the companion epic, the king faces an extended and hazardous road home.
Mythical Encounters with an All-Star Cast
On his travels, the hero encounters numerous obstacles and legendary creatures. This roster features the witch-goddess Circe, who transforms men into swine, as well as the treacherous Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, Odysseus vows to overcome anything to get back to his wife and son in Ithaca.
The adaptation's cast is remarkably star-studded. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway is Charlize Theron as the cunning Circe, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
