Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to put their strong form at risk, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's opener, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising the match official to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that the winger and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves Thomas Frank's side into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in role at both ends of pitch

After a drab midweek performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a only two shots on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to score.

And the captain - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to head home.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have worn off somewhat and fans flocked to the gates after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's pair of recognised strikers - had netted just one league goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having space and time to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, as well, was unable to influence the game after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It was not for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.

Everton: Moyes' men head to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: Spurs go to St James' Park on late October for their fourth-round League Cup tie against the Magpies.
